Give the site a magical identity.
The identity of Long Dock Beacon will be revealed
as the building is designed, but the masterplan
begins to suggest potential: An urban boardwalk
and public plaza on the north side with views to the
harbor and park beyond, steps at the water's edge,
boats, people, cars, bikes, glimpses of the working
hotel, takeout food, picnics, barbeques, boatbuilding,
seasonal markets, boat rental.
A pier-like hotel with
a public walkway from upland to the water's edge,
deck chairs with a view of the meadow, a waterfront
bistro with outdoor seats in the sun, a gourmet
restaurant, bridges over a water channel to the
meadow beyond, a lookout with a west view, fitness
on the boardwalk, gatherings in big rooms with a
spectacular river view, kayak lessons. A restored
and developed natural site on the south side with
groves of trees, beaches, wetlands with trails,
elevated boardwalks, bird watching towers, bird
blinds, kayak and canoe rental in a quiet harbor,
picnic spots, interpretative stations, places for
fishing.
